Adele: The Sweetheart of Soul

Following on from the Soul songstress' mezmerising performance at the Brit Awards there has been constant chatter about just how incredibly talented Adele really is. And aren't we all mighty glad that she is back to fill our lives with her angelic voice and beautiful lyrics.

As the BBC's Sound of 2008 and another graduate of the Brit School, Adele is just one of many of the breathtakingly fresh talents to have emerged over the last few years. Fellow graduates in the form of Amy Winehouse, Jessie JJamie Woon and Katy B have all gone on to achieve critical acclaim and success in their own right.  It just proves the might of UK talent, and goes to show that we can compete with the best of the rest.Testament to this is shown in the seven awards that Adele has under her belt from prestigious award shows like The Brits, The Grammy's and the Urban Music Awards; as well as nominations from The MTV Europe Music Awards, The Q Awards and the coveted Mercury Prize.

With a sound much older than her twenty-two years, Adele is a rarity who is loved by people of all ages; men and women alike. She is an example of genuine and raw talent, doing it her own way without the need to conform to what is popular in today's music scene. Her confidence on stage gives her a certain power akin to the likes of other soul megastars Aretha Franklin and Mariah Carey. But she is not shy to exposing her vulnerabilty, as shown at the Brits on tuesday when she put in a tearful performance of her single 'Someone Like You'. It was a show-stopping performance which had everyone completely hooked on her every poignant and lasting word. Accompanied only by a piano, she had the audience captivated from start to finish, and her display of emotions only enhanced the affection we have for her. As a result, she demonstrated her worth as the country's reigning queen of soul when the song was catapulted to the top of the iTunes download chart within hours of her performance.

There has been an enormous rush to buy her debut album '19' as well as her latest offering '21'... Now just watch tickets for her 'just announced' UK tour fly out when they go on sale this friday!!

Have another listen to her stunning Brit 2011 performance:
