COACHELLA FESTIVAL 2011

From 15-17th April, The Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival took place in the Empire Polo Field of Indio, California with performances from some of the world's best bands.

Set in the Californian desert, temparatures can reach a sizzling 38 degrees - it's no wonder then, that people from around the world  flock in their thousands to attend the festival where sunshine is guaranteed. Granted there is the long flight across the Atlantic as well as the small matter of expense, but from the glittering reviews it has garnered in its 12 year history, I think it's well worth it. I better start saving for next year!

The stellar line-up was comprised of music heavyweights Kings of Leon, Arcade Fire, Duran Duran, Big Audio Dynamite, The Kills, Death From Above 1979, Two Door Cinema Club, Scissor Sisters, Kanye West, Interpol, Mumford and Sons, Erykah Badu, Robyn, Cold War Kids, Foals, Empire of the Sun, Tame Impala,  The Joy Formidable, Two Door Cinema Club, Wiz Khalifa, Tinie Tempah & many many more...

As I was not able to attend this year, I have had to rely on grainy footage on youtube, and reading online reviews to get an idea of what it was like. What I found was nothing but high praise, with many deeming it as the best yet! With flawless performances and magical stage set-ups, this years Coachella was nothing short of incredible.

Fashion was as much part of the festival as the music was. Not a minute went by without gossip websites commenting on what the likes of Katy Perry, Rihanna, Paris Hilton and Dita Von Teese were wearing. Their every move and outfit was snapped by the waiting photographers, and so you would be forgiven for thinking  the festival was more about them than the music. I guess there is more emphasis on the fashion when you can dress up as much as you like without running the risk of getting wet and muddy (like our UK festivals). The celebs were channelling the 50's to the 70's era's if you must know, with pretty flapper dresses as well as hippy-inspired (Woodstock-esque) looks too.

In fact, Coachella could well be the closest thing to Woodstock we have, with many people losing all their inhibitions and letting themselves go for a 3-day partying extravangaza (judging by the pictures of half-naked ladies with just flowers to cover their modesty).

And for those of you, like me, who missed out on the festival, we have an exclusive download of Duran Duran's live promo gig for all our lucky readers. It is only available until 23rd April, so get it now before it goes - and start getting excited for next year's Coachella!
