Stevie McCrorie, the winner of The Voice 2015, released
his debut album Big World on January 8th 2016 on Decca
Records and is now getting ready to play his own songs for the audience at
Boderline on 23rd March. I had a chat with Stevie about his new record, life
after The Voice and future plans.
How has your journey been
since winning The Voice last year?
It has been everything really, so many amazing
experiences but a lot of emotions writing the album, travelling and being away
from home. It has been very unique and looking forward to it continuing. I feel
very blessed.
You’ve just announced a very
special headline show at London Borderline on Wednesday 23rd March 2016. This
date is also your birthday! I’m guessing you’re looking forward to paying this
show?
Yes I am definitely looking forward to
playing a headline show in London, I have played in London before in other
bands I have been in over the years, but it's amazing to headline this venue
and really hope to get it busy. I will then get to show people what I'm really
all about off a TV show with my live band. I hope to get a big happy birthday
from the crowd ha ha.
What can your fans expect from
your live show?
Expect, it to be raw/emotional/upbeat
and rocking at times. This is what I have done for half of my life so I feel
it's where I belong (in music venues) soaking in real atmosphere. TV Is good to
get your name out there but real gigs are what it's all about.
You have also just released
your debut album Big World via Decca Records. Tell us a bit about the album and
the writing process?
I had so many song ideas over the years,
so it made it easy when writing the album. I wrote with guys down in London but
I made sure they were all my ideas and the guys just brought them to life like
I have always done in bands over the years. I met some amazing
writers/producers/musicians and it's amazing to continue to learn after all
these years... It's also great to have released something on a major record
label as opposed to me releasing them myself like before.
Stevie McCrorie - My Heart Never Lies
What is your favourite track
from the album? My favourite track is all dependant on
my mood but if I had to narrow it down to one I would say "Lungs"...
I just feel me and the guy who produced it captured something, I had the song
pretty much written before but when we sat down together I decided to let him
hear what I had. We put a demo down very quick and the vocal take was pretty
much done in one take, we kept that take for the finished song. The meaning in
the song cheers me up and keeps me motivated when I hit a brick wall.
What is the best bit of advice
that you have received from Ricky Wilson?
He probably gave me loads of amazing
advice but i was so caught up in the whole TV element and my life being changed
I can't remember a lot, my brother quotes him now and again when I'm self
doubting like do. Ricky always said keep my wife close as I won't be able to
continue without her. Maybe he sees how much of a wreck I am deep down haha.
What does 2016 have in store
for you?
Hopefully the album will grow from
strength to strength, I truly believe it deserves it. It is a great album
with a lot of heart and soul in it, it flows great too. I would like people to
see me as more than a talent show winner and see the songwriter and performer I
have always been but at the same time I'm not too fussed, "people love
people hate". I want to do a load of festivals.
Have you got any messages for your fans?
Yer all legends, love Ye!! xx
