Katie Melua's Video For 'Dreams On Fire' & Tour Dates
Good news for Katie Melua fans, not only has Katie three years
after her last album release
announced her new album ‘In Winter’, set to be
released on October 14th this year. She has also released the official
video for ‘Dreams On Fire’, a single off of her forthcoming album.
The video shows Katie on an acoustic guitar and members of
Gori Women’s Choir performing in the historic Georgian National Opera and
Ballet Theatre of Tbilisi in Georgia, Katie’s explains her choice for the venue
of the music video stating that “In 2014, during the renovations, I was shown
round the theatre by Zurab Lomidze who was director of the opera house in 1991
at the time of the civil war. In many ways the theatre symbolises a new phase
for the country. The beauty and opulence of the building was at odds with my
childhood memories of Tbilisi and it gave me a great sense of hope for the
country's future, that a place of art and culture has been so lovingly
restored."
The video has an overall feeling of peacefulness yet joy rolled
into one and as the song goes on, the choir become more hearable and notably louder
which makes for a pleasurable listening experience, and an experience you
really could imagine you and your family listening to in the colder months. Not
only do we think that the song accompanied by the video is great but so does
Michael Ball who premiered the song on Radio 2, saying at the time “what a
lovely sound, very mellow, very evocative. The sound of the choir…utterly
beautiful”.
Both the theme of the song and the video is a reflection of
her album as a whole as the album is based around the theme of winter, a choice
that was made simply out of a conversation she had with one of her friends, a
conversation where they both agreed that there was a need for a seasonal album,
she explains she wanted to create “an album that would fill the house with
wonderful, warm, poignant sounds rather than the usual jingle-bells pop songs
that tend to hit the airwaves during that time of year. Something we could
listen to from start-to-finish rather than on a song-by-song basis. So, that’s how the album was born – out of
necessity!”
The album includes the choir throughout, resulting in twenty-five
female voices being blended together to create a sound that is both powerful
and delicate.
If you like the sound of ‘Dreams On Fire’ and the idea of
the choir accompanying Katie Melua’s soft voice then you’re in luck as this winter
Katie Melua, her band, and the 24-piece Gori Women’s Choir will be embarking on
a European tour performing the album in its entirety as well as a selection of
classic songs from Katie’s catalogue.
